Alexandra – The Guns and Drums – Bearbeitete Probeaufnahme
Alexandras Probeaufnahmen für ihren späteren Produzenten Fred Weyrich wurden nach ihrem Tod 1970 orchestral unterlegt. So erklärt es sich, dass in diesen Aufnahmen ihr Gesang noch nicht ganz abgerundet ist. Mit “The Guns and Drums” benutzte Alexandra eine irische Weise, um daraus ein erschütterndes Antikriegslied zu komponieren. Der Text basiert auf dem 1939 von Dalton Trumbo geschriebenen berühmten Roman “Johnny got his gun”, der 1971 auch von ihm selber verfilmt wurde. Es ist die Geschichte eines verstümmelten Soldaten, der ohne Gliedmaßen dahinvegetiert, unfähig, sich seiner Umwelt mitzuteilen… Hinweis: Die folgende Textwiedergabe enthält auch jene Zeilen, die später aus der Aufnahme wieder entfernt wurden!
