How do you "screen" members before they post on your website forum?

We have been getting TONS AND TONS of spam on our forum. We use a phpbb forum. We would like to "screen" our members before they post. How do we do that? thanks in advance…

    You can set it up so that Guests cannot post and also set it up so that an email confirmation is required before posting. This DRASTICALLY reduced the amount of spam on my PHPBB site.
